Today, 30 April 2020, the Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Thomas-Symonds MP, has written to the Home Secretary after her recent appearance at the Home Affairs Select Committee.
Yesterday, 29 April 2020, the Home Secretary, Rt Hon Priti Patel MP, was questioned by several Members of the Home Affairs Select Committee. The Committee’s function is to scrutinise the work of the Home Office, and consists of several UK Members of Parliament.
During yesterday’s hearing, the Home Secretary was asked questions relating to Coronavirus screening at UK Borders. In light of her comments, the Shadow Home Secretary has written seeking further clarification on this and asking if lessons can be learnt.
Mr Thomas-Symonds MP, in his letter stated
“As the Government plans for when the time is right for changes to lockdown restrictions, it is vital that we have a full understanding of which measures would prove most effective in minimising the risk of further spread of the virus. As a result, it is vital that we learn from what has been achieved in minimising the spread so far and also what mistakes have been made, so the necessary lessons can be learned. This is particularly important in relation to how we best manage our borders and organise international travel.”
