The Shadow Home Secretary has today written to the Government urging them to improve Covid-19 UK border health measures.
Nick Thomas-Symonds MP’s letter to Rt Hon Priti Patel MP follows their discussion during a debate in the House of Commons last Wednesday, during which Mr Thomas-Symonds criticised the Government’s management of arrivals into the UK for lacking energy and coherence.
In this debate Mr Thomas-Symonds MP drew particular attention to the economic costs resulting from the Government’s failure to implement any policy besides 14-day quarantining. This was followed up by Mr Thomas-Symonds MP in his letter, where he reiterated the need for the Government to make up lost time and move away from this cumbersome measure:
“The British people desperately need assurances that you can address the mistakes made and time lost early in this crisis, by quickly putting in place a more targeted approach that allows the blunt tool of 14-day quarantine to be lifted safely and quickly.”
