The Shadow Home Secretary has today urged the Government to launch a rapid review into alternative coronavirus protection measures.
Nick Thomas-Symonds MP wrote to the Home Secretary, Rt Hon Priti Patel MP, asking for the review to be carried out in order to safely move away from the blanket 14-day quarantine measure currently in place for all new arrivals. Whilst the Government has expressed a desire to reduce quarantining time, it has so far failed to offer any clarity as to how this may be achieved. Mr Thomas-Symonds MP said that this failure had caused uncertainty and damaged many sectors of the economy.
The Shadow Home Secretary said:
“The Government’s handling of arrivals into the UK has lacked urgency, coherence and clarity from the outset. Including being too slow to implement controls at the onset of the crisis.”
